(SpiritHorse of) Broken Creek Youth Ranch offers equine assisted therapy programs FREE OF CHARGE to our participants.
As a 100% volunteer based and facilitated organization, all costs are funded by contributions, fundraising events and grants, as well as through the donation of products, time and services of partnering individuals, businesses, foundations and organizations.
Here at Broken Creek Youth Ranch, we provide unique, highly effective equine assisted programs for at risk and special needs youth, ages 18 months of age to 18 years of age. Several programs include horse care management as part of the curriculum, incorporating responsibility and ownership to participants.
Each participant, to the best of their ability, may learn to lead, groom and prepare their equine partner before and after each therapy session as part of their therapy program. During their physician prescribed program, an individual’s needs are addressed through equine assisted therapy, up to and including speech, sensory, balance, behavior, cognitive processing and more, in an experiential learning environment.
We serve a variety of special needs, including, but not limited to, those with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, brain trauma injuries, sensory processing disorders and attention deficit disorders, as well as needs dealing with speech, hearing, sight or paralysis in our therapeutic riding and therapeutic driving programs. We provide programs for at risk youth with behavioral disorders, eating disorders, depression, relationship issues and abuse backgrounds as well as assist and serve at risk parents dealing with family/relationship issues through our equine assisted learning and therapy programs. A partnering horticulture therapy/community garden program is seasonably available for our participants and families to enjoy as part of their therapeutic experience.
Although riding is an important component of the therapeutic riding program, Broken Creek Youth Ranch does not offer recreational riding, traditional horsemanship instruction and/or riding lessons.
Participants attend a weekly 1 hour scheduled equine assisted therapy appointment or as prescribed by their physician(s). Please contact us for additional information on the programs we offer and available instructors.
We are a licensed SpiritHorse International Therapeutic Center and a PATH International Member Center. Our staff includes certified SpiritHorse, PATH Intl. and EAGALA instructors. We have many dedicated and experienced volunteers that generously donate their time and resources to assist our participants and support our programs.
